Decorated Butter Cake Recipe

Ingredients

For the butter cake:

2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour

2 ½ tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened

2 cups (400g) granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 cup (240ml) whole milk

1 tbsp vanilla extract

For the buttercream frosting:

1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened

4 cups (480g) powdered sugar

2 tbsp heavy cream (or milk)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

Making the cake:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans with parchment paper.

Prepare dry ingredients: In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Cream the butter & sugar: In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Add eggs: Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Add vanilla & milk: Mix in vanilla, then gradually add the flour mixture and milk, alternating in batches.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool: Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Making the Buttercream Frosting

Beat butter until creamy (about 2 minutes).

Gradually add powdered sugar and continue beating.

Mix in vanilla extract and heavy cream, beating until smooth and fluffy.

Add food coloring if desired.

Decorating the Cake

Frost the cake: Spread a thin layer of frosting over the first cake layer. Place the second cake on top and frost the entire cake smoothly.

Pipe decorations: Use a piping bag with different nozzles to create rosettes, swirls, or borders.

Add sprinkles or edible pearls for an elegant touch.

Optional: Decorate with fresh fruits, chocolate shavings, or edible flowers.
