Hobo Casserole
Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
4-5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
½ cup milk
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon butter, for greasing the baking dish
Instructions:
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
Step 2: Cook the Ground Beef
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft (about 5-7 minutes).
Drain any excess fat and season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Step 3: Make the Creamy Sauce
In a bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth.
Step 4: Assemble the Casserole
In the greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes.
Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the potatoes.
Layer the remaining potatoes on top of the beef.
Pour the creamy mushroom sauce evenly over the top, ensuring all the potatoes are covered.
Step 5: Bake the Casserole
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil, sprinkle the top with shredded cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the potatoes are tender.
Step 6: Serve
Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
Optionally, garnish with chopped parsley or green onions for extra flavor.
