📋 Ingredients
● For the Cake:
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/2 cup buttermilk
● For the Mousse:
• 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
• 2 tbsp unsalted butter
• 3 large eggs, separated
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
● For the Topping:
• Whipped cream (for garnish)
• Chocolate shavings (for garnish)

📝 Instructions
1: Make the Cake – Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, until just combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan.

2: Prepare the Mousse – In a heatproof bowl, melt the chopped chocolate with the butter over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth; remove from heat and let cool slightly. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, gradually adding the 1/4 cup sugar until stiff peaks form. Stir the egg yolks into the cooled chocolate mixture until well combined, then gently fold in the whipped egg whites until no white streaks remain. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with the vanilla extract until soft peaks form, and gently fold this into the chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.

3: Assemble the Cake – Carefully slice the cooled cake horizontally into two layers. Place the bottom layer on a serving plate and spread half of the chocolate mousse evenly over it. Top with the second cake layer and spread the remaining mousse over the top, smoothing the surface.

4: Chill and Garnish – Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 4 hours until the mousse is set. Before serving, garnish with a dollop of whipped cream and a sprinkling of chocolate shavings.
